Preparing for Practice (Scottish Standards)

Training Programme Overview

The Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC), in collaboration with employers and other stakeholders, has developed Preparing for Practice - a national induction framework for the Scottish social service sector. Preparing for Practice has been developed as a starting point to assist employers plan and delivers a comprehensive induction training programme.

Designed to deliver training in line with Scottish Social Services Council national induction framework for all social service staff. The training programme covers all six key components including:

  • Introduction to social services.
  • The Organisation.
  • Service specific issues.
  • The workplace.
  • Roles and responsibilities.
  • Values.

Training Programme Topics Covered

  • Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.
  • Communicating and Handling Information.
  • Dealing with death, dying and bereavement.
  • Discrimination, equality and inclusion in the workplace.
  • First Aid.
  • Food Safety, Nutrition, Hydration and Well-being.
  • Infection Control (Preventing the spread of infection).
  • Introduction to learning disability.
  • Introduction to mental illness.
  • Moving and Positioning.
  • Person centred values.
  • Personal development and performance in your role.
  • Personal development planning.
  • Safety at Work.
  • Supporting active participation.
  • Understanding autistic spectrum condition - An introduction to autism.
  • Understanding dementia.
  • Understanding equality, diversity and discrimination.
  • Working with Medication and Healthcare Tasks.
  • Working with Your Employer and Others.
  • Your Role and Duty of Care.

  • 12 courses
  • 28 e-learning modules
  • 27 online assessments.
  • Certificate.
